Se mettre au vert dans un monde queer : Mutation, épidémie et régénération dans Verts et « Les Neuf derniers jours sur Terre » Going Green in a Post-Gender World : Mutation, Epidemic, and Regeneration in Verts and “The Last Nine Days on Earth”

Résumé

Le roman graphique Verts (2024) de Patrick Lacan et Marion Besançon, et la nouvelle « Les Neuf derniers jours sur Terre » (2020) de Daryl Gregory, mettent en scène la transformation du monde au contact d’une épidémie végétale. Les comparer me permet d’interroger des topoï de la science-fiction depuis le point de vue queer de leurs personnages. Dans ces œuvres, le mutant importe moins que la mutation, et les parentés sont ouvertes aux Autres qu’humains pour défendre une futurité queer. Face aux crises, la culture populaire semble ainsi développer une esthétique posthumaine fondée sur une appréhension renouvelée de la pandémie.

Abstract

The graphic novel Verts (2024) by Patrick Lacan and Marion Besançon, and the short story “The Last Nine Days on Earth” (2020) by Daryl Gregory, depict a world reshaped by a vegetal epidemic. Placing these works in dialogue allows me to examine key science-fiction topoi from the queer perspectives of their characters. In these narratives, the mutant matters less than mutation itself, and kinships open toward nonhuman Others in order to sustain a queer futurity. In the face of crisis, popular culture thus appears to be developing a posthuman aesthetic grounded in a renewed understanding of pandemic experience.
