Tourisme et environnement post-COVID-19 : une analyse critique des tendances émergentes Tourism and the Environment in the Post-COVID-19 Era: A Critical Analysis of Emerging Trends

Résumé

À partir d’une revue critique de littérature, cet article examine les principaux impacts environnementaux du tourisme post-2020, en distinguant les impacts amplifiés, réduits et émergents. Ces impacts sont illustrés par des exemples tirés de contextes géographiques variés. En fonction de ces impacts, l’analyse proposée montre, entre autres, la valorisation de quatre concepts écologiques dont : la régénération, la résilience, l’économie circulaire et la transition écologique, appliqués au domaine du tourisme. Si ces concepts ne sont pas entièrement nouveaux, ils ont gagné en visibilité et en pertinence au sein du secteur du tourisme, amenant ainsi un certain renouveau dans les discours en faveur de la durabilité. Cependant, nous montrons que leur utilisation et les transformations qu'ils induisent restent floues pour les acteurs du tourisme, soulignant la pertinence des recherches visant à mieux les transposer au tourisme, tant sur le plan théorique qu’appuyées par des données probantes.

Abstract

Based on a critical literature review, this article examines the main environmental impacts of tourism in the post-2020 era, distinguishing between amplified, reduced, and emerging impacts. These impacts are illustrated with examples drawn from diverse geographic contexts. In response to these impacts, the analysis highlights, among other things, the growing prominence of four ecological concepts: regeneration, resilience, circular economy, and ecological transition, as applied to the tourism sector. While these concepts are not entirely new, they have gained visibility and relevance within the tourism field, contributing to a renewed discourse on sustainability. However, we show that their use and the transformations they imply remain vague for tourism stakeholders, underscoring the importance of further research aimed at clarifying how they can be meaningfully translated into tourism practice—both theoretically and through evidence-based approaches.
