Abstract
This article presents theoretical and clinical elaborations concerning the challenges faced by psychodynamic psychotherapists during the treatment of children who have experienced early relational traumas. For example, an incomplete psychological development, an epistemic distrust, difficulties in managing the relational distance with the psychotherapist, and the idealization of abusive parents, among others. The text also addresses some of the attitudes and techniques that should be favored in the individual psychotherapy of traumatized children. Brief clinical vignettes illustrate the authors’ ideas. In conclusion, the article outlines the expected progression of the abused child in the context of psychodynamic psychotherapy.
