Abstract
This article examines some challenges related to the operationalization of research data management services in academia, mainly in Canada. Based on a literature review, we show that several structural challenges hinder the adoption of good practices in RDM, particularly in terms of raising awareness among researchers and students, operationalization at the institutional level and integration of good practices into the research culture. By mobilizing empirical and analytical sources from different national contexts, we propose a transversal reading of RDM, at the intersection of institutional, disciplinary and organizational logics. Three main issues are analyzed: (1) the challenges of raising awareness of RDM among researchers; (2) organizational and structural difficulties within universities; and (3) limited monitoring of the policy by the federal granting agencies. We also propose some possible solutions to overcome the challenges identified in the scientific literature.
