Abstract
Based on a theory of social representations, this article provides an empirical illustration of a model for describing teachers’ attitudes to new technologies. In the first part, the authors present those elements which, over the various historical periods and theoretical models, illustrate the debates and conflicts that accompany the introduction of new technologies in schools. These debates constitute conditions which promote the development of social representations within a social body such as that of teachers. In the second part, the authors provide empirical data of the way in which Italian teachers organize their attitudes toward new information and communication technologies as predicted by the theory of social representations.
