Abstract
In this article, we outline an emergent community-engaged research-creation (CE-RC) methodology that builds on principles from performative ethnography, community engagement, and care-full improvisation. CE-RC was developed through the Resonance Project (2020-23), in which we tested, reflected on, and refined our ideas in collaboration with musicians from marginalized communities. Drawing on both ethnographic data and analysis of collaborative artistic creations, we argue that CE-RC has high potential as a participatory applied methodology through which researchers and community collaborators together can advocate for positive social change.
Résumé
Dans cet article nous présentons la méthodologie des débuts d’un projet de création-recherche communautaire (community-engaged research-creation, CE-RC), qui se fonde sur les principes de l’ethnographie performative, l’engagement communautaire et l’improvisation attentive (care-full). Le CE-RC a été élaboré dans le cadre du Resonance Project (2020-2023) lors duquel nous avions testé, pensé et affiné nos idées en collaboration avec des musiciens de communautés marginalisées. À partir des données ethnographiques autant que des analyses des créations artistiques collaboratives, nous avançons que le CE-RC présente un grand potentiel de méthodologie participative appliquée à travers laquelle les chercheurs et leurs collaborateurs des communautés peuvent ensemble plaider en faveur d’un changement social positif.
