Abstract
This article expands upon and documents a practice-based inquiry into the transformation of contemporary visual culture, engaging debates around machine vision, operational imaging, and generative AI. Featuring a series of original digital artworks alongside the multimodal interactive/immersive environment Machine Visions: Mojave, the article situates hybrid images and environments as neither purely representational nor rigidly instrumental, but as sites where perception, computation, and environmental awareness are actively co-produced. The Mojave Desert—where Joshua trees serve as a climate-sensitive bioindicator—functions as both object of study and critical test case, revealing the speculative potentials of more than human ways of seeing and knowing.

Cet article prolonge et documente une enquête fondée sur la pratique consacrée à la transformation de la culture visuelle contemporaine, en s'inscrivant dans les débats sur la vision machinique, l'imagerie opérationnelle et l'IA générative. S'appuyant sur une série d'oeuvres numériques originales ainsi que sur l'environnement multimodal interactif et immersif Machine Visions: Mojave, l'article situe les images et environnements hybrides comme n'étant ni purement représentationnels ni strictement instrumentaux, mais comme des lieux où perception, calcul et attention environnementale sont activement co-produits. Le désert de Mojave (Mojave Desert) --- où les arbres de Josué jouent le rôle de bioindicateur sensible au climat --- fonctionne à la fois comme objet d'étude et comme cas d'épreuve critique, révélant les potentialités spéculatives de manières plus-qu'humaines de voir et de connaître.
