La présente contribution analyse la perception du Troisième Reich dans la presse périodique des intellectuels québécois entre 1933 et 1947 sous trois perspectives : tout d’abord en examinant le contexte historique, celui d’une période marquée par une intense créativité culturelle et intellectuelle ; puis en analysant les thèmes majeurs de la perception du Troisième Reich dans les périodiques intellectuels au Québec, perception influencée par un nouvel intérêt très vif pour la politique et la culture allemandes sous-tendu par la volonté de comprendre la prise du pouvoir par Hitler et le phénomène du nazisme ; et en se focalisant, enfin, sur des figures centrales d’argumentation concernant principalement le discours sur « les deux Allemagnes » et la distinction établie entre le peuple allemand en tant qu’entité et la responsabilité collective pour les crimes nazis.

Abstract

This article analyzes the perception of the Third Reich in Quebec intellectual journals between 1933 and 1947 from three different perspectives: first, by examining the historical context, in a period characterized by intense cultural and intellectual creativity; second, by analyzing the major themes surrounding the perception of the Third Reich in Quebec intellectual journals, a perception influenced by a new and very strong interest in German politics and German culture, which reflected a desire to understand Hitler’s rise to power and the phenomenon of Nazism; and, finally, by focussing on key rhetorical devices, especially the discourse on “the two Germanies” and the distinction established between the German people as a whole and collective responsibility for Nazi crimes.
