Créer son identité à l’école : promouvoir le bien-être des enfants immigrants par l’art Creating identity at school: Promoting the well-being of immigrant children through art

Résumé

Le processus migratoire et le climat social hostile envers la différence augmentent les risques de développer des conflits identitaires chez les enfants immigrants qui affecteront leur bien-être psychologique. En accueillant avec bienveillance leur identité, l’école peut toutefois contribuer à une construction identitaire harmonieuse. Pour ce faire, des ateliers d’expression créatrice peuvent être intégrés en classe. À partir d’une recension non exhaustive des écrits, ce texte a donc pour objectif d’illustrer, à l’aide d’exemples tirés d’expériences de recherche et d’intervention de l’auteure, comment l’intervention par l’art peut effectivement contribuer à la construction d’une identité davantage imprégnée de sens pour l’enfant immigrant.

Abstract

The migratory process and the hostile social climate increase the risk of developing identity conflicts among immigrant children that will affect their psychological well-being. By welcoming and acknowledging their identity, the school can nevertheless contribute to a harmonious identity construction. In order to do this, creative expression workshops can be integrated into the classroom. From a non-exhaustive review of the literature, this text aims to illustrate, using examples from the author's research and intervention experience, how art can actually contribute to the construction of a more meaningful identity for immigrant children.
