Abstract
This chapter examines “refugee-refugee relationality” through the case of Baddawi camp in Lebanon, where Palestinian refugees established since the 1950s host people displaced from Syria. By shifting the gaze from archetypal relationships between refugees and international actors toward relationships among different refugee groups, the analysis reveals complex dynamics of solidarity, hospitality, and tension. The author explores how overlapping displacements create shared yet contested spaces where refugees themselves become providers of assistance. However, international humanitarian interventions also generate new hierarchies and inequalities among refugees, fragmenting the dynamics of conviviality and mutual support that characterize these spaces. This chapter argues for sustained attention to refugee-refugee relationality to understand contemporary displacement experiences.
