Résumé
Cet article tente d’examiner la relation entre le développement touristique, la réduction de la pauvreté et les inégalités de revenus. Sur un échantillon de 46 pays en développement, avec un accent particulier sur les pays du Sud et de l’Est méditerranéen (PSEM) pendant la période 1980-2009, nos résultats suggèrent que le tourisme international est généralement favorable à la réduction de la pauvreté dans de nombreux pays en développement et plus particulièrement dans les PSEM qui se concentrent sur le tourisme. Ces résultats soulignent l’importance du tourisme international pour les pauvres.

Abstract
This article examines the relationship between tourism development, reduction of poverty and income inequality. On a sample of 46 developing countries, with a particular focus on the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Countries (SEMC) during the period 1980-2009, our results emphasize the importance of international tourism in reducing poverty in many developing countries and especially in SEM countries that focus on tourism. These findings highlight the importance of international tourism for the poor.
