Résumé
Avec l’adoption en 2000 des objectifs du Millénaire pour le développement par les États membres de l’Organisation des Nations unies, la lutte contre la pauvreté est devenue indissociable du développement. Bien que la plupart des analyses s’attardent encore principalement à ses dimensions économiques, la pauvreté est maintenant comprise par les chercheurs, mais aussi par les institutions gouvernementales et non gouvernementales, comme une notion multidimensionnelle complexe qui interpelle toutes les disciplines. En raison notamment de sa croissance phénoménale dans les pays du Sud au cours de la dernière décennie, le tourisme est souvent envisagé par ces mêmes acteurs comme un vecteur de lutte contre la pauvreté, dont le tourisme « pro-pauvres » demeure l’exemple le mieux connu. À partir de la littérature scientifique publiée en anglais et en français depuis 1995, cet article propose un panorama de la recherche traitant des relations entre le tourisme et la pauvreté dans les pays du Sud. L’analyse de notre corpus confirme que cette relation est rarement abordée par les chercheurs et que ceux-ci contribuent très peu au renouvellement du débat sur le sujet, laissant non résolues les tensions entre la conceptualisation et l’opérationnalisation de ces notions.
