Résumé
L’implantation de foyers de groupe se bute souvent à ce qu’on appelle le phénomène « pas dans ma cour ». Afin de mieux comprendre ce phénomène et d’en identifier la source, cette étude pilote examine l’expérience des résidents de quartiers où l’opposition à l’implantation de tels foyers s’est manifestée. Les résultats ont permis d’identifier les raisons sous-jacentes en plus d’explorer l’impact négatif de la présence de tel foyers sur la vie de la communuaté environnante. Enfin, l’auteure conclut que l’écoute du citoyen et la reconnaissance de ses inquiétudes s’avèrent essentiels à une plus grande acceptation et à un meilleur soutien de la communauté envers ces foyers.
Abstract
Implementation of group homes often come up against the “Not in My Back Yard” (NIMBY) phenomenon. In order to better understand this phenomenon, this pilot study examines the experience of community residents in three borough where opposition to the implementation of group homes was encountered. Results reveal the underlying reasons for this problem as well as explore the negative impact of the presence of such group homes in the community. Finally, the author concludes that listening to citizens and acknowledging their concerns are essential to developing greater acceptance and a better support towards group homes.

La implantación de hogares se encuentra con frecuencia con lo que llamamos el fenómeno “no en mi patio trasero”. A fin de comprender mejor este fenómeno e identificar la fuente, este estudio piloto examina la experiencia de los residentes de las colonias en las que se ha manifestado una oposición a la implantación de dichos hogares. Los resultados permitieron identificar las razones subyacentes, además de explorar el impacto negativo de la presencia de dichos hogares en la vida de la comunidad circundante. Por último, la autora concluye que escuchar al ciudadano y reconocer sus inquietudes es esencial para una mayor aceptación y un mejor apoyo de la comunidad hacia dichos hogares.
Resumo
A implantação de residências de grupo depara freqüentemente com o que chamamos de fenômeno “não no meu bairro”. Afim de melhor compreender este fenômeno e de identificar sua fonte, este estudo piloto examina a experiência dos moradores de bairros onde manifestou-se a oposição à implantação de tais residências. Os resultados permitiram determinar as razões subjacentes, além de explorar o impacto negativo da presença de tais residências na vida da comunidade local. Finalmente, a autora conclui que a consulta ao cidadão e o reconhecimento de suas preocupações são essenciais para uma maior aceitação e um melhor apoio da comunidade em relação a estas residências.
