Abstract
For more than 20 years, the use of role-playing games and simulations in history classes has been well studied. Our research falls within this perspective, while focusing on the ability of these activities to promote the development of historical empathy, as reported in the literature. To provide some answers to this question, the metasynthesis represents a valuable approach to better understand the pedagogical choices made by teachers to use role-playing games and simulations. Our results reveal that these activities, by their intrinsic mechanisms, are favourable to the development of historical empathy.
