Cet article informe sur l’évaluation fonctionnelle du comportement (ÉFC) appliquée au milieu scolaire. En vogue aux États-Unis, l’ÉFC semble prendre de l’ampleur au Canada, notamment dans les écoles de l’Alberta. La première partie du document définit l’ÉFC et retrace ses origines. Suivent les procédures de recueil des informations permettant de réaliser l’ÉFC. Sont finalement précisés les principaux avantages et inconvénients de l’ÉFC en milieu scolaire.

Abstract

The information presented in this text is intended to enlighten the reader as to Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) as it is applied in schools. FBA is widely used in the United-States and its use seems to be gaining acceptance in Canada, most notably in schools in Alberta. This document first defines FBA and specifies its origins. Then it explains the information-gathering procedures to follow in carrying out an FBA. Finally, it outlines the main advantages and disadvantages associated with the use of FBA in schools. This text ought to give the reader a better appreciation of the value of this type of evaluation in understanding the reasons for students’ unwanted behaviors.
