Abstract
This article studies the place of trust in human resource management (HRM) in small firms (SF). It aims to answer two questions: to what extent does trust represent a way of HRM in SF, i.e. able to influence the attitudes of employees toward the firm ? To what extent can it be “managed” (i.e. stimulated) by the owner-manager ?
For that, it first proposes a theoretical framework of trust in this context. Then, based on the results of a survey conducted in 81 SF, it shows that it is possible for a manager of a SF to act on the mutual trust feeling of its employees, and that this feeling has an impact on their organizational commitment in its affective and normative dimensions.
