Abstract
This article presents an exploratory research aiming to understand the features and profiles of the students registered in the academic studies access diploma and to identify commitment and persistency motivations. We also examine the factors explaining their perseverance vs withdrawal. The data stem from 24 half-directive interviews and 3 quantitative corpora. The results show that motivation and involvement come under intrinsic and extrinsic reasons and that to carry on as well as to withdraw are very complex phenomena linked to different factors. Relevant and fruitful angles leading to develop involvement, persistency and success that have to be considered by the universities preparing to this diploma, are also discussed.
