Adjectifs et interprétation quantifiante en français québécois

RÉSUMÉ

Cet article illustre les propriétés lexicales de certains adjectifs du français québécois (en abrégé, FQ) qui permettent une interprétation quantifiante. Nous montrons que l’absence de marque d’accord en genre qui distingue les adjectifs à valeur quantifiante des adjectifs qui assignent une propriété à une entité découle de la structure avec avoir, qui permet de conférer à certains adjectifs l’interprétation quantifiante. Par conséquent, nous posons que l’interprétation quantifiante est issue de propriétés configurationnelles et que le choix des adjectifs qui pourront apparaître comme quantifieurs de substantifs dans une structure avec avoir est déterminé en fonction des traits formels [+N] et des traits sémantiques [+mesure] qui marquent ces éléments lexicaux.

ABSTRACT

This paper underlines the lexical properties of some Quebec French (QF) adjectives which behave as quantifiers. We show that the lack of gender features which distinguishes adjectival quantifiers from adjectives which assign properties to a nominal follows from the structure with have, which endows some adjectives with quantifying meaning. Consequently, we establish that the quantifying interpretation follows from configurational properties and that the selection of adjectives which quantify over nominals in have structures is determined by the formal [+N] features and the semantic [+measure] features which characterize those lexical items.
