Abstract
This research aims to identify the factors that could best predict the frequency of musical performance anxiety (MPA) reported by elementary school students enrolled in a music-education program. To achieve this, 164 students enrolled in one elementary school’s music intensive program participated in the study. The participants completed questionnaires measuring their music lesson satisfaction (MLSS and QESPP) and their MPA (MPAI-A). Multiple regression analysis reveals that the self-efficacy scale (GSES) and gender are significant predictors of MPA. Furthermore, high SEP is associated with a lower presence of MPA manifestations for boys, suggesting a stronger protective effect of SEP for them than for girls. Finally, the study highlights the importance of considering a set of factors to better understand the occurrence of MPA manifestations in young musicians.
