Abstract
Background: Students’ perceptions of assessment quality can significantly shape their learning behaviors. Understanding this relationship is especially critical in nursing education, where assessment plays a pivotal role in achieving program learning outcomes.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the relationship between undergraduate nursing students’ perceptions of assessment quality and their approaches to learning in a Jordanian private university undergoing ACEN accreditation.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using validated questionnaires: the Students’ Perceptions of Assessment Quality Questionnaire (SPAQQ) and the Approaches to Learning and Studying Inventory (ALSI). A total of 645 students participated. Pearson correlation and multiple regression analyses were used to explore associations between six assessment quality dimensions and five learning approaches.
Results: All six SPAQQ dimensions showed strong positive correlations with deep, surface, and strategic learning approaches (r = 0.48–0.78; p < .001). Multiple regression analyses revealed that the perceived credibility, authenticity, and effects of assessment significantly predicted deep learning (R² = 0.61), monitoring studying (R² = 0.50), organized studying (R² = 0.40), and effort management (R² = 0.42). The interpretation of test scores and credibility were significant predictors of surface learning (R² = 0.37).
Conclusion: Students’ positive perceptions of assessment quality—particularly its credibility and relevance—are strongly linked to deeper and more strategic learning. These findings highlight the importance of enhancing assessment practices to foster meaningful learning, particularly in institutions seeking international accreditation.

Contexte : La perception qu’ont les étudiantes et étudiants de la qualité des évaluations peut avoir un impact important sur leurs comportements d’apprentissage. Comprendre cette relation est particulièrement important pour la formation en sciences infirmières, où l’évaluation joue un rôle déterminant dans l’atteinte des résultats d’apprentissage visés par les programmes.
Objectif : Cette étude vise à examiner la relation entre la perception de la qualité des évaluations chez les étudiantes et étudiants de premier cycle en sciences infirmières et leurs approches d’apprentissage dans une université privée en Jordanie soumise à un processus d’agrément par l’Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
Méthodes : Une étude transversale a été effectuée et deux questionnaires validés ont été utilisés : le Students’ Perceptions of Assessment Quality Questionnaire (SPAQQ), qui examine les perceptions des étudiantes et étudiants de la qualité de l’évaluation, et le ALSI (Approaches to Learning and Studying Inventory), qui porte sur les façons d’apprendre et d’étudier. Au total, 739 étudiantes et étudiants ont participé à l’étude. Des analyses de corrélation de Pearson et des régressions multiples ont été utilisées afin d’examiner les liens entre six dimensions de la qualité de l’évaluation et cinq approches d’apprentissage.
Résultats : Les six dimensions du SPAQQ démontraient de fortes corrélations positives avec les approches d’apprentissage en profondeur, superficiel et stratégique (r = 0,48–0,78; p < 0,001). Les analyses de régression multiple ont révélé que la crédibilité perçue, l’authenticité et les effets de l’évaluation sur l’apprentissage prédisaient de façon significative l’apprentissage en profondeur (R2 = 0,61), l’auto-surveillance des études (R2 = 0,50), les études organisées (R2 = 0,40) et la gestion de l’effort (R2 = 0,42). L’interprétation des résultats des tests et la crédibilité étaient de prédisaient de façon significative l’apprentissage en surface (R2 = 0,37).
Conclusion : Les perceptions positives des étudiantes et étudiants de la qualité des évaluations, particulièrement en ce qui concerne leur crédibilité et leur pertinence, sont étroitement liées à des apprentissages davantage stratégiques et en profondeur. Ces résultats mettent en évidence l’importance d’améliorer les pratiques d’évaluation de manière à favoriser un apprentissage significatif, particulièrement dans les établissements qui cherchent à obtenir un agrément international.
