Abstract
Developing teachers’ well-being is a complex endeavour, as the identified contributors arise from various disciplines, at times far removed from teachers’ professional realities. To examine how aspects of the teaching workload impact occupational health, we conducted a study examining two samples from New Brunswick [n = 584] and Quebec [n = 510]. The analysis suggests that certain aspects of teachers’ workloads can partially explain their work-life satisfaction and psychological well-being. Several converging trends emerging between the two provinces highlight the distinctive characteristics of the teacher-student relationship as well as the importance of leadership for improving teachers’ well-being. This study aims to guide educational policies by breaking down what the term “workload” is understood to include.
