Résumé
Le travail de Léon Dion, un des pères des sciences politiques au Québec, est reconnu depuis longtemps. Néanmoins, dans le champ de l’historiographie, force est de constater que ce dernier a très peu attiré l’attention des chercheurs. L’article suivant pose l’hypothèse que cet oubli est le résultat d’un malaise suscité par un aspect de sa pensée, lequel fait la promotion d’une troisième voie : le fédéralisme asymétrique. Pour étayer cette hypothèse, nous explorons chronologiquement les principaux travaux de Dion sur la nation, sur le nationalisme et sur la question nationale en les mettant en perspective avec les travaux de quelques intellectuels de son époque. Nous en venons à la conclusion que Dion a été la dernière voix de cette troisième voie.
Abstract
The work of Léon Dion, one of the founding figures of political science in Quebec, has long been recognised. Nevertheless, in the field of historical research, his work has drawn little attention from scholars. This article hypothesises that this omission is the result of a malaise related to an aspect of Dion’s thought, namely to his promotion of a third way: asymmetrical federalism. To substantiate this hypothesis, we chronologically explore Dion’s major works on the nation, on nationalism, and on the national question, examining them alongside those of other major thinkers of his era. We thus conclude that Dion was the last voice to advocate a third way.
