The journal Mesure et Évaluation en Éducation (MEE) was established in 1978 by the Association pour le développement des méthodologies d’évaluation en éducation (ADMEE-Canada) to foster scientific exchanges among researchers and individuals interested in the field of measurement and evaluation, and to widely disseminate research findings. In 1985, with the founding of its sister Association, ADMEE-Europe, the journal took an international turn, expanding its reach to an increased number of countries.

MEE is a platform for communication and exchange intended for individuals interested in various perspectives within the field of measurement and evaluation in education. It serves as a source of information on the most recent research and reflective work. Researchers, practitioners, and those who have adopted measurement and evaluation as a specialized field of study and reflection share their ideas, opinions, and research findings for the benefit of their colleagues and education stakeholders.

Categories of texts published by the journal

The texts published in the journal can belong to two categories: Articles or Critical Reviews.

Category: Articles

Texts in this category are subject to blind peer review. The evaluation process is rigorous, and the texts are carefully revised to meet the standards of a scientific journal. The texts can take different forms, including:

• Research findings on evaluation practices (learning assessment, program assessment, and teaching assessment) or experimental reports (design, adaptation, validation). It should be noted that the journal does not favor any particular methodology. Qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods research are published.
• Theoretical analyses or reflections, literature reviews, synthesis of writings on a subject, or meta-analyses.
• Texts with a didactic focus, discussing concepts or methods in measurement and evaluation, for example.

Category: Critical Reviews

Texts in this category undergo a review process by the editorial committee. For example, these texts can be critical reviews of books, software, instruments, or any other type of production related to measurement and evaluation.

Publication of Issues

The MEE journal publishes three issues per year. These issues consist of articles written by various authors, evaluated and accepted for publication. The journal also publishes thematic issues. In such cases, a theme can be proposed by a researcher and selected by MEE journal. The Canadian and European editors of MEE, along with the guest editor responsible for the thematic issue, ensure its quality, originality, and relevance. The editorial team of MEE journal may also propose a theme.

MEE journal embraces the richness of bilingualism in Canada. Since Volume 42 (2019), it annually releases a translation issue containing translated versions of articles published by the journal throughout the year. English translation is an option offered to authors whose articles have been accepted and published, and who wish to benefit from this service.

Indexing

The European Reference Index for the Humanities and Social Sciences (ERIH PLUS), which lists journals in the humanities and social sciences that meet established criteria of quality, has indexed the journal since 2017. The articles of the journal are also included in general content aggregators such as EBSCO, Persée, Google Scholar, and Repère.

Open Access

The journal is available in open access on this platform, allowing for wide dissemination of knowledge to anyone interested in the field of measurement and evaluation.

Starting from issue 45(2), articles will be published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.

Self-Archiving Policy

The authors are free to deposit the submitted version (Preprint), accepted version (Author's Accepted Manuscript), or published version (Version of Record) of their article in an institutional or disciplinary repository. No embargo is imposed.

Editorial policy and ethics

Peer Review

The received texts undergo evaluation by two or three expert reviewers who follow the principle of blind peer review. The anonymity of both authors and reviewers is ensured by the editorial team.

The evaluations are conducted using a form consisting of 12 criteria of scientific rigor expected by the journal. Each reviewer can indicate the level achieved by the article (not applicable, excellent, very good, satisfactory, weak, very weak) for each criterion. Reviewers are invited to suggest corrections, if necessary, and provide specific comments that can be addressed to the journal (accessible only to the editorial team) as well as to the authors. Reviewers are also required to provide an overall recommendation for the article. The options for recommendation are as follows:

• Full acceptance
• Acceptance with minor revisions
• Invitation to resubmit after major revisions
• Rejection with no possibility of publication
• Not suitable for the journal

The obtained evaluations and the various comments expressed are communicated to the authors anonymously.

Authors Guidelines

Regardless of the category (Article or Critical Review), all texts must be submitted in French using a word processing software compatible with Microsoft Word. The text should be double-spaced, in Times New Roman font size 12, with page dimensions of 21.5 x 28.5 cm or 21.0 x 29.5 cm. The text should not exceed 50,000 characters (excluding spaces) or a total of 8,500 words (excluding footnotes and reference list).

The first page of the text should include the title, a suggested running head (maximum 60 characters), a French abstract, and an English abstract (approximately 100 to 150 words), followed by keywords (4 to 7) that can be used as descriptors, also provided in French and English.

Footnotes may be added sparingly. Figures, graphs, formulas, or diagrams should be submitted in Word format and in high-resolution editable PDF format, including images and fonts. Photos or images, if applicable, should be 300 dpi (dots per inch) at publication size and saved in .JPG format (high quality). All graphical elements should be provided as separate files from the manuscript in Word format. The inclusion of screen captures or elements from websites (only 72 dpi) should be avoided. References should follow the latest version of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th edition).

It is important to ensure that the text does not contain any indications that would allow reviewers to identify the authors.

Authors should include a separate Word file with their submission indicating their name, the name of their affiliated organization, their status (student, professor, research professional, etc.), their professional address, and their email. When there are multiple authors, the same information should be provided for each author, in the order that will be maintained for the eventual publication of the article. It is essential that each author provides an ORCID ID (https://orcid.org/). This ID allows authors to share their information and affiliations, which is one of the best practices in research.

Submission Checklist

1. The text submitted to the journal must not have been submitted or published in another journal.
2. The text does not infringe on any copyright or any other person's rights.The text is free from plagiarism and does not contain any confidential material that could violate any laws.
3. The submission file is in Word format.
4. The text adheres to APA 7th edition formatting guidelines.
5. URLs for references have been provided where applicable.
6. The text is double-spaced, in Times New Roman font, and uses a font size of 12 points.
7. The text does not exceed 50,000 characters (excluding spaces) or a total of 8,500 words (excluding footnotes and reference list).
8. The text does not contain any indications that would allow reviewers to identify the author(s).
9. The first page of the text includes: 1) the title; 2) a suggested running head (maximum 60 characters); 3) a French abstract and an English abstract (approximately 100 to 150 words) followed by keywords (4 to 7) that can be used as descriptors, provided in both French and English.
10. The author's or authors' identity has been removed from the Word file properties by clicking on File in the Microsoft application's main menu: File > Info > Check for Issues > Inspect Document > Document Properties and Personal Information > Inspect (remove all).
11. In a separate Word file from the submitted text, the following information is provided for each author: 1) Full name; 2) Affiliated organization name, status (student, professor, research professional, etc.), professional address, and email address; 3) ORCID ID (https://orcid.org/).

The text must be submitted through the Open Journal System (OJS) platform.

Author Fees

No fees are required from authors for the submission or publication of articles. However, MEE journal charges fees for authors who wish to have their article translated into English for publication in translation issues (as stated in the "Policy on Translation Issues" section).

Policy on Thematic Issues

The Proposal for a Thematic Issue

The proposal for a thematic issue should include an introductory text of approximately 1000 words, specifying the individual(s) responsible for the scientific management of the dossier, identified as guest editor(s), along with a list of anticipated contributions including authors and a schedule for completion. The guest editor(s) should possess recognized expertise in the theme of the thematic issue and should not have participated as guest editor(s) in a recent thematic issue of the journal. The proposal to be submitted should include between five and eight articles and be addressed to the journal's editor. If the proposal contains articles authored by the guest editor(s), their contribution should not exceed 25% of the total content of the issue.

The Support and the Editing Process

The editors, along with the journal's editor, are responsible for supporting the coordination of special issues and collaborating with guest editors to ensure the quality and relevance of the content. Articles included in thematic issues undergo a review process similar to that of regular issues, thereby maintaining a high standard of editorial quality. Articles authored by guest editors undergo an independent review process, ensuring a rigorous and impartial evaluation of their content before publication in the journal.

Policy on Translation Issues

MEE journal publishes one translation issue per year. The translation service to English is only offered to authors of articles published by the journal since Volume 42. Translation is an optional service for which the journal requests a contribution of CAD 1000 per translated article, covering a portion of the translation, layout, and dissemination costs. It should be noted that the guidelines and the amount may be modified from year to year depending on the funds available to the journal. 

Ethical Policy

The text submitted to the journal must not have been submitted or published elsewhere and must not violate any copyright. As a scholarly journal, MEE journal strongly opposes all forms of plagiarism. We define plagiarism as the failure to properly acknowledge the source of someone else's work. Self-plagiarism is also prohibited. If suspicions of plagiarism are confirmed, the author(s) may face the following consequences, depending on the nature of the offense:

• Article correction without warning
• Article correction with warning
• Article rejection
• Article rejection with a ban on submission to the journal for three years

Since issue 45(2), authors retain their copyright and distribution rights. For the publication of the article, authors are required to sign a publication agreement using a form provided upon acceptance of the manuscript for publication in MEE journal under the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 license. Authors will grant MEE journal the right to: 1) carry out any operations aimed at increasing the visibility and dissemination of the manuscript and 2) provide free access to the text at all times.
