Abstract
Research on the link between ICTs and performance do not give a clear answer about the nature of this link : a direct and positive relationship is not systematic. It seems that ICTs have an impact on performance through organizational processes. Because of the role of the owner-manager in a small business, its interest in ICT will not be neutral. Hence, the aim of this paper is to better understand the role of the owner-manager with regards to the IT practices of his company and to observe the consequences on performance. More precisely, we seek to answer the following question : does the owner-manager’s interest promote a greater use of ICT and, above this, a better performance, or does it affect the use of ICT by acting as an amplifier of the quality of their use by the employees ? The theoretical interest of this research relates to the link between ICTs and performance, by relying on a sector for which information management is crucial. To achieve this, we use the results of an empirical study conducted among 123 small and medium sized enterprises around the French Riviera.
