Juste la fin du monde de Xavier Dolan : du cercle infini à la ligne droite Xavier Dolan’s It’s Only The End Of The World : from the infinite circle to the straight line

L’objectif de cet article est d’analyser le lien unissant le cinéma et le théâtre dans Juste la fin du monde (2016) de Xavier Dolan, adaptation cinématographique de la pièce de théâtre éponyme de Jean-Luc Lagarce, et d’examiner le passage du texte dramatique au récit filmique conduisant à la naissance d’une nouvelle oeuvre d’art distincte et autonome. Pour ce faire, nous nous appuyons sur les écrits des auteurs suivants : Robert Stam et André Gaudreault, pour aborder les enjeux et les dynamiques créatives mises à l’oeuvre dans l’adaptation cinématographique ; Gérard Genette, pour ce qui est de l’approche transtextuelle ; et Deleuze et Guattari, pour la notion de plan de composition.

Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyse the link between cinema and theatre in Xavier Dolan’s Juste la fin du monde (It’s Only the End of the World), 2016, a cinematographic adaptation of Jean-Luc Lagarce’s eponymous play, and to examine the transition from dramatic text to film narrative, leading to the creation of a distinct and autonomous new work of art. To do so, we rely on the writings of the following authors : Robert Stam and André Gaudreault, to address the issues at stake and the creative dynamics at work in film adaptation ; Gérard Genette, for the transtextual approach ; and Deleuze and Guattari, for the notion of composition plan.
