Résumé
Après la période andalouse qui marqua une cohabitation linguistique et religieuse où interagirent savoirs d'Orient et d'Occident, du Nord et du Sud, l'histoire espagnole semble ordonner en même temps que l'unification castillane, une progressive pente à l'intolérance avec l'institution de l'Inquisition et les proclamations nombreuses des Statuts de la propreté du sang, dès le XVIe siècle. Le Siècle d'Or est le pic des politiques de l'exclusion civile et religieuse en même temps qu'il interroge le lien causal entre répression et épanouissement remarquable des arts qui notamment organisent un contrepoint à la vérité officielle et intolérante en faisant de leurs emprunts mythologiques plus que des motifs d'ornementation. Le XVIIIe siècle verra, en Espagne, l'émergence d'un catholicisme éclairé qui, s'il prend forme parmi les clercs, est soutenu par des figures importantes des lettres, comme le bénédictin Feijóo qui combattra autant les préjugés universitaires que religieux. Ce combat confirmera combien la tolérance ne peut se penser dans un premier temps que dans le christianisme ou, autrement dit, que l'origine de la tolérance postule le retour aux origines du christianisme.
Abstract
After the Andalusian era, which marked a form of linguistic and religious coexistence that intermingled knowledge from the West and East, the North and South, Spanish history also seemed to command that the Castilian unification should occur in conjunction with a progressive inclination toward intolerance, with the institution of the Inquisition and the numerous proclamations of statutes governing purity of blood beginning in the l6 th century. Spain's GoldenAge represents the apogee of policies aimed at civil and religious forms of exclusion. Likewise, it raises questions as to the causal link between repression and the remarkable efflorescence of the arts which, in particular, created a foil to officiai truth and intolerance by making more of mythological borrowings than mere ornamentation.Eighteenth-century Spain saw the emergence of an enlightened form of Catholicism which, while taking shape among the clerics, was also supported by major figures in the world of letters such as the Bénédictine monk and scholar Feijôo, who combated both academic and religious prejudices. This combat confirms the extent to which tolerance, to begin with,can be conceived of only within Christianity, or, in other words, how the origin of tolerance présupposes a return to the origins of Christianity.
