Résumé
Le regard porté sur les sculptures de l'Antiquité commence à changer au cours du XIVe siècle : considérées comme des œuvres démoniaques, elles deviennent des objets dignes d'admiration, pour des raisons artistiques (modèles pour l'imitation de la nature) et politiques (images de la " Virtù " romaine). Ce mouvement atteint son apogée au début du XVIe siècle ; puis il est menacé par une réaction morale dans la deuxième moitié du siècle, aboutissant à l'occultation des statues du Belvédère. Mais le rôle médiateur de ces œuvres dans la culture et dans la création artistique, en particulier, exclut toute rechute dans l'iconoclasme. La création du Museo Pió Clementino symbolise la glorification de la sculpture antique, tandis que son inauguration par Pie VI et Gustave III de Suède montre que l'Antiquité est devenue une promesse de tolérance et de dialogue.
Abstract
The look cast on the antique sculptures begins to change during the XIV teenth century : considered as works of the devil, they turn into objects worth of admiration, for artistic (model for the imitation of nature) or political reasons (reflections of the roman "virtù"). This evolution was coming to a climax at the beginning of the XVI teenth century ; and then it was threatened with a moralizing reaction in the second half of the century, that leads to the occultation of the statues in the Belvedere courtyard. But the mediating part of the Antiques in the culture, especially in the artistic creation, rules out a relasp in iconoclasm. The foundation of the Pio Clementino Museo symbolizes the glorification of the antique sculpture, while its inauguration by pope Pius VI and King Gustav III of Sweden shows that Antiquity has turned into a promise of tolerance and dialogue.
