Resumen
El presente artículo pertenece al campo de las ideologías lingüísticas (Schieffelin, Woolard y Kroskrity, 1998; Del Valle, 2007) y analiza el discurso metalingüístico de dos importantes periódicos publicados en español: La Opinión de Los Ángeles y El Nuevo Herald de Miami. Nuestro propósito consiste en visibilizar las ideologías y los mecanismos usados por estos dos periódicos para determinar el valor simbólico de las prácticas lingüísticas de los hispanohablantes. Además, examinaremos cómo estos mecanismos ideológicos, a pesar de ser diferentes en cada periódico, contribuyen a la construcción de identidades definidas y estáticas que ignoran la realidad de las comunidades hispanas en Estados Unidos.

Abstract
The present article belongs to the field of language ideologies (Schieffelin, Woolard, and Kroskrity, 1998; Del Valle, 2007) and analyzes the metalinguistic discourse of the two major Spanish-language daily newspapers: La Opinión published in Los Angeles and El Nuevo Herald published in Miami. Our goal is to reveal the language ideologies and the mechanisms used by these two newspapers to determine the symbolic value of Spanish speaker’s repertoires. In addition, we will examine how these ideological mechanisms, despite the fact that they differ from each newspaper, they contribute to the construction of well-defined and static identities that ignore the reality of Spanish-speaking communities.
