Cet article se veut une lecture attentive de l’installation The Photographer de David Tomas (1950–2019) telle que présentée lors de l’exposition Aurora Borealis (Montréal, 1985) ainsi que son itération subséquente dans la revue SubStance (1986). À partir de documentation photographique, de documents d’archives, d’entretiens et d’une revue sélective de la littérature, le texte pose — de façon performative — la question du retour sur l’oeuvre par l’écriture dans un contexte posthume.
Abstract
This article presents a close reading of the installation The Photographer by David Tomas (1950–2019) as presented during the exhibition Aurora Borealis (Montreal, 1985) as well as its subsequent iteration in the journal SubStance (1986). Based on photographic documentation, archival documents, interviews, and a selective literature review, the text poses—in a performative way—the question of returning to the work through writing in a posthumous context.
