De l’image incorporée à l’image introjectée Deuil et nourriture à l’épreuve du divan From the Incorporated Image to the Introjected Image Grief and Food on the Psychoanalytic Couch

Résumé

Cet article propose l’analyse de trois films culinaires contemporains – La passion de Dodin Bouffant (Trần Anh Hùng, 2023), Hunger (Sitisiri Mongkolsiri, 2023) et Toast (S. J. Clarkson, 2010) – qui articulent étroitement l’expérience gustative et le travail de deuil (amoureux, professionnel et maternel). À partir du concept d’incorporation, envisagé comme matrice de l’introjection, l’article montre comment l’ingestion alimentaire devient la matérialisation symbolique d’un processus psychique se déclinant en trois phases : la satisfaction, la destruction et l’assimilation. La passion de Dodin Bouffant met en scène la satisfaction pulsionnelle en nouant le désir érotique et le désir alimentaire ; Hunger radicalise la dimension destructrice de l’incorporation en exposant la violence archaïque de la faim ; Toast, enfin, figure le passage de l’incorporation mélancolique à l’introjection, en faisant du motif du toast une métaphore du travail de deuil. L’étude articule, dans un même mouvement, l’analyse narrative, l’analyse figurative et l’analyse figurale afin de montrer que, dans ces films, l’invisibilité du psychisme n’est pas seulement racontée, ni symbolisée, mais rendue sensible, engageant de ce fait une forme d’« incorporation » des images chez le spectateur. L’article propose dès lors de penser l’expérience cinématographique elle-même comme un processus d’ingestion et de transformation : voir un film, c’est incorporer des images susceptibles d’être ultérieurement introjectées.

Abstract

This article analyses three contemporary culinary films – La passion de Dodin Bouffant (Trần Anh Hùng, 2023), Hunger (Sitisiri Mongkolsiri, 2023) and Toast (S. J. Clarkson, 2010) – which closely link the taste experience with the act of mourning (romantic, professional and maternal). Based on the concept of incorporation, considered as a matrix of introjection, the article shows how food ingestion becomes the symbolic materialisation of a psychological process that unfolds in three phases: satisfaction, destruction and assimilation. La passion de Dodin Bouffant depicts instinctual satisfaction by linking erotic desire and food desire; Hunger radicalises the destructive dimension of incorporation by exposing the archaic violence of hunger; finally, Toast depicts the transition from melancholic incorporation to introjection, using the motif of toast as a metaphor for the act of mourning. The study combines narrative analysis, figurative analysis and figural analysis to show that, in these films, the invisibility of the psyche is not only narrated or symbolised, but made sensitive, thereby engaging a form of “incorporation” of images in the viewer. The article therefore proposes to think of the cinematic experience itself as a process of ingestion and transformation: to watch a film is to incorporate images that may later be introjected.
