Résumé
Basé sur une enquête ethnologique multi-sites (France, Suisse romande et Inde) et mêlant entretiens semi-directifs et observation participante, cet article plonge dans l’univers des pratiquants de yoga qui partent en ashram ou en « vacances yoga ». Il interroge le tourisme du yoga en partant des motivations, pour exposer certaines caractéristiques en termes de lieu, de temporalité et d’activités, et s’intéresse aux conséquences de ces séjours sur les parcours de vie. Passant de l’échelle macrosociale à l’échelle microsociale, les retraites en ashram marquent souvent un passage pour s’engager pleinement dans la pratique, voire changer de vie.

Abstract
Based on a multi-site anthropological survey (France, Switzerland and India) and mixing semi-directive interviews and participant observation, this article immerses in the universe of yoga practitioners who go on “yoga holidays” or to ashrams. Yoga tourism is investigated starting from the motivations to expose some characteristics in terms of location, temporality, and activities, and then looks at the consequences of these journeys on life paths. Moving from the macro-social to the micro-social scale, ashram retreats often mark a passage to become fully engaged in a practice, or even change one’s life.
