Résumé
Il s’agit dans cet article d’étudier le croisement entre la guerre et les animaux dans trois textes (une traduction de la Batrachomyomachie en vers burlesques, la Galanterie à une dame de Jean-François Sarasin et les Fables de La Fontaine). Je propose d’y observer l’amalgame des lieux communs de l’épopée et des procédés du registre burlesque. Ces analyses permettent de réviser notre conception de la notion d’héroï-comique et du rapprochement de ces textes avec le genre de l’épopée. Les implications morales sont interrogées en fin de parcours, qui montrent à quel point la description des guerres peut être appliquée à des discours qui condamnent la folie de la violence.
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to study the overlap of war and animals in three texts (a translation of the Batrachomyomachie in burlesque verse, the Galanterie à une dame by Jean-François Sarrasin and the Fables of La Fontaine). I propose to see in them a combination of epic commonplaces and burlesque techniques. These analyses allow us to revise our conception of the notion of the mock-heroic and observe how these texts approach the epic genre. Moral implications are examined at the end, showing the extent to which the description of wars can apply to discourses that condemn the folly of violence.
