Résumé
Cet article se propose de montrer comment la relation des écrivains africains à l’exil est, à bien des égards, ambiguë et fantasmatique. L’exil provoque un désenchantement : l’ailleurs entre en tension avec l’ici et dit l’achèvement d’un mouvement de l’ailleurs vers l’ici (et sa fusion dans l’ici : l’ailleurs devient l’ici), tout en mimant aussi l’achèvement du voyage de l’ailleurs à l’ici. Cette tension engendre un effet de rupture entre la mémoire de l’ailleurs et celle de l’ici, et dit la saisie d’un monde surprenant, sans repères. L’exil n’est plus un problème de soi à la terre ou à la culture étrangères, mais de soi à soi. Nous voilà donc loin des concepts d’errance, de rhizome, de nomadisme, alors que nous interpelle désormais l’idée de traversée.
Abstract
This article proposes to show how African writers’ relationship to exile is, in many respects, ambiguous and fantastical. Exile gives rise to disenchantment: the elsewhere enters into tension with the here and talks of the completion of a movement from the elsewhere towards the here (and its fusion in the here: the elsewhere becomes the here), while miming as well the completion of the journey from the elsewhere to the here. This tension produces an effect of rupture between the memory of the elsewhere and that of the here, and tells of grasping a surprising world, with no reference points. Exile is no longer a problem of self to foreign earth or culture, but of self to self. This brings us far, therefore, from the concepts of wandering, rhizome, nomadism, since what concerns us henceforth is the idea of crossing over.
