Littérature et mathématiques : jalons pour une approche perpendiculaire Literature and Mathematics: Paving the Way for a Perpendicular Approach

Résumé

Les entreprises interdisciplinaires se font souvent sous le signe de l’ambiguïté et les tentatives de rapprochement entre littérature et mathématiques ne font pas exception. Cet article essaie de baliser les difficultés et les possibilités d’une telle rencontre à partir d’un cas précis, celui du bouleversement des isomorphies temporelles dans le récit. On tente ensuite de dépasser le stade de l’application pour envisager, à travers l’axiomatique, les enjeux d’un regard mathématique sur la chose littéraire.

Abstract

Interdisciplinary undertakings are often characterized by ambiguity, and efforts to reconcile literature and mathematics are no exception. This article aims to map out the difficulties and possibilities of such a reconciliation based upon a specific case — the shattering of temporal isomorphics in narrative. It then attempts to go beyond the application stage to envision through axiomatics what is involved in the intersection of mathematics and literature.
