Peuple Pataxó

Résumé

Le peuple Pataxó habitait la région qui est aujourd’hui le sud de la Bahia bien avant l’arrivée des Portugais. Entre autres territoires, ils occupent toujours le district de Cumuruxatiba, dans la municipalité de Prado, où se situe la Terre indigène de Comexatiba. Ce territoire ancestral est actuellement le théâtre de disputes entre les fermiers et les indigènes pour la propriété de la terre. Au milieu du conflit, les Pataxó mènent leur vie quotidienne du mieux qu’ils peuvent. La communauté s’est organisée pour écrire et parler en son propre nom. Elle dénonce les attaques qu’elle subit, elle s’expose aussi et présente sa culture.

Abstract

The Pataxó people inhabited the region that is today southern Bahia long before the arrival of the Portuguese. Among other territories, they still occupy the district of Cumuruxatiba, in the municipality of Prado, where the indigenous land of Comexatiba is located. This ancestral territory is currently the scene of disputes between farmers and indigenous people for the ownership of the land. In the midst of the conflict, the Pataxó live their daily lives as best they can. The community has organized itself to write and speak on its own behalf. They denounce the attacks they suffer; they also expose themselves and their culture.
