Résumé
L'objectif de cet article est de fournir une analyse critique du rôle de la sociolinguistique dans l'évolution récente de l'éducation en langue française, domaine central de la mobilisation politique des francophones de l'Ontario. Il démontre comment les sociolinguistes contribuent à légitimer cette mobilisation, et plus particulièrement les revendications scolaires de la nouvelle classe moyenne francophone. En même temps, il examine comment les sociolinguistes ont pu identifier des tensions au sein de ce mouvement, tensions à résoudre pour atteindre les objectifs collectifs de la francophonie ontarienne.
Summary
The objective of this paper is to present a critical analysis of the role of sociolinguistics in the recent evolution of French-language education, which has been the main sphere of activity in the political mobilization of Francophones in Ontario. It shows how sociolinguists have contributed to the legitimation of this mobilization, particularly regarding demands made in ttie field of education by the new Francophone middle class. At the same time, it examines how sociolinguists have been able to identify tensions within this movement, tensions which must be resolved in order to attain the collective goals of the Francophone community of Ontario.

El objetivo de este artículo es entregar un análisis crítico del rol de la socio-lingüística en la evolución reciente de la educación en francés, dominio central de la mobilization política de los francófonos de Ontario. El artículo demuestra como los isociolinguistas contribuyen a hacer legítima esta mobilization, y más particularmente las reivindicaciones escolares de la nueva clase media francófona. Al mismo tiempo, el artículo examina la manera como los sociolinguistas han podido identificar las tensiones existentes en el seno de este movimiento, tensiones que deberán ser resueltas para lograr los objetivos colectivos de la francofonía ontariana.
