Roland Barthes contre Roland Barthes. Une poétique de la complaisance

Résumé

Roland Barthes par Roland Barthes comme les Fragments d’un discours amoureux sont caractérisés à la fois par le plaisir pris par l’auteur à l’exhibition de ce qu’il appelle ses “déchets” et la recherche d’un lecteur à la bienveillance maternelle. Ils ressortissent à un projet tout à fait conscient, destiné à répondre à un problème que Barthes identifiait explicitement dans le premier de ces deux ouvrages. Cet article reconstitue le fonctionnement de cette “poétique de la complaisance”, avant de montrer que cette solution temporaire confronte Barthes à une nouvelle aporie. En effet, la complaisance, impliquant à la fois le plaisir pris à parler de soi et le refus du travail formel, empêche le texte dont elle est la loi de relever de la critique comme de la littérature.

Abstract

Roland Barthes by Roland Barthes, as well as A Lover’s Discourse, are characterized both by the pleasure taken in the exhibition of Barthes’s ‘waste’ and the need of a reader with maternal benevolence. It is in fact a project fully aware of its own functioning : what I call a “poetics of complacency” which responds to a problem that Barthes explicitly identified in the first of these two works. This paper reconstructs how this poetics works, before showing that it is only a temporary solution, which confronts Barthes with a new aporia. In fact, complacency, implying both the pleasure taken in talking about oneself and the refusal of formal work, prevents the text from coming either under criticism or literature.
