Résumé
Ce texte analyse le phénomène des élections de Conseils d’élèves au Québec et porte une attention particulière aux objectifs politiques que poursuit explicitement l’État à travers cette pratique, soit : 1) inculquer aux jeunes l’idée selon laquelle le vote est la pratique démocratique par excellence ; 2) former les jeunes à cette pratique ; 3) encourager le respect des jeunes à l’égard du système politique. La discussion repose sur une analyse du discours officiel au sujet des élections de Conseils d’élèves ainsi que des slogans électoraux produits par les élèves. Le discours officiel est replacé dans un contexte historique et philosophique pour conclure que l’approche de l’État relève d’un choix idéologique qui cherche à accroître la légitimité de l’autorité politique libérale.
Abstract
This article presents an analysis of the phenomenon of student council elections in Quebec, specifically regarding the government’s explicit political objectives for this practice including: 1) to develop students’ concept regarding voting as the most perfect example of democratic practices: 2) to train students in these practices: 3) to encourage students to show respect regarding the political system. An analysis of the official statements regarding student council elections and of the student-produced election posters is discussed. The official statements are placed within a historical and philosophical context that leads the author to conclude that the government’s approach is based on an ideological choice that aims to increase the legitimacy of a liberal political authority.
Resumen
Este texto analiza el fenómeno de las elecciones de Consejos de alumnos en Quebec y presta una atención particular a los objetivos políticos que persigue explícitamente el Estado a través de esta práctica, es decir: 1) inculcar a los jóvenes la idea que el voto es la práctica democrática por excelencia; 2) formar a los jóvenes a esta práctica; 3) fomentar el respeto de los jóvenes hacia el sistema político. La discusión se fundamenta en un análisis del discurso oficial acerca de las elecciones de Consejos de alumnos así como esloganes electorales creados por los alumnos. El discurso oficial se vuelve a colocar en un contexto histórico y filosófico para concluir que el enfoque del Estado es del dominio de una elección ideológica que intenta incrementar la legitimidad de la autoridad política liberal.
