Abstract
This article aims to clarify the confusion that has developed in publications describing management and organizations as they deal with concepts of organizational change, adaptation and transformation. The author discusses the nature of organizational transformation from the perspective of the content of change. He then examines a radical conception of change that is linked to transformation, considered as a process, and one that leads to a theory of organisational change. These ideas are illustrated by several studies on universities. This procedure allows the author to question the assumptions of certain theories of organizations and to raise very important questions regarding the choice of strategies for transforming universities.
