Résumé
Selon David Bollier, l’un des spécialistes les plus réputés du phénomène : « […] un commun, c’est : une ressource + une communauté + un ensemble de règles sociales » (Bollier, 2014, p. 27). En inscrivant notre démarche de recherche dans une perspective essentiellement sociologique, nous tentons d’abord dans cet article de préciser le contenu des « règles sociales » évoquées par Bollier. Ceci nous conduit à proposer un idéal-type du commun, à l’aide duquel nous explorons ensuite plusieurs organismes montréalais, dans le but de mieux cerner ce que nous proposons de nommer le processus de communalisation. Dans un second temps, nous discutons des apports et des limites de ce processus dans la perspective d’une stratégie interstitielle de sortie du capitalisme (Olin Wright, 2017), notamment par rapport à deux formes sociales voisines de celle des communs : les coopératives et les communautés intentionnelles. Nous considérons l’autoproduction comme l’une des caractéristiques importantes de la communalisation, que négligent bien souvent les principaux théoriciens des communs.

Abstract
According to David Bollier, one of the most renowned specialists on the phenomenon of the commons: “[...] a common is a resource + a community + a set of social protocols” (Bollier, 2014, p. 27). This article seeks to define these “social protocols” through an essentially sociological research perspective. We propose an ideal-type of commons and then use this as a departure point to explore several Montreal organizations in an attempt to better define a process that we refer to as communalization. Secondly, we discuss the contributions and limitations of this process from the perspective of an interstitial strategy for exiting capitalist society (Olin Wright 2017), particularly in relation to two types of social organizations that are similar to the commons: cooperatives and intentional communities. We see self-management as an important feature of communalization that is often overlooked by social theorists studying the social phenomenon of the commons.
