Résumé

Depuis plusieurs années, et particulièrement au cours des derniers cycles électoraux, le paysage politique québécois se transforme. La fin du bipartisme, le renouvellement des acteurs et actrices du système politique (en ce qui concerne tant les formations politiques que les personnes élues), la nature des enjeux politiques saillants dans l’espace public et le comportement de l’électorat annoncent pour plusieurs un éclatement de la scène politique, lequel serait symptomatique d’un réalignement. Ce numéro thématique a pour objectif d’analyser comment s’articule ce phénomène et quelles sont ses conséquences sur la vie politique au Québec. Notre article introductif brosse le portrait de ces transformations, notamment en ce qui concerne les dynamiques électorales, les différents clivages politiques majeurs et les acteurs et actrices. Il montre aussi en quoi ce phénomène mérite que l’on s’y attarde en analysant, par exemple, les cycles électoraux à venir, les pratiques de communication politique en transformation et les conséquences des changements politiques sur le plan institutionnel. Il présente finalement les différentes contributions du numéro thématique.

Abstract

For several years, and particularly during the last few electoral cycles, the political landscape in Quebec has been changing. The end of the two-party system, the renewal of the actors in the political system (in terms of political parties as well as elected officials), the nature of the salient political issues in the public arena, and the behaviour of the electorate all point to a splintering of the political scene—which is symptomatic of a realignment. This thematic issue aims to analyze how this phenomenon is articulated and what its consequences are for political life in Quebec. Our introductory article paints a picture of these transformations, particularly with regard to electoral dynamics, the various major political cleavages and the political actors. It also shows how this phenomenon deserves attention by analyzing, for example, the upcoming electoral cycles, the changing practices of political communication and the consequences of political changes at the institutional level. Finally, it presents several contributions to this thematic issue.
