Résumé
Cet article vise à contribuer à l’étude de l’élite financière opérant au Québec en s’appuyant sur l’analyse du cas de l’entreprise Papiers White Birch dans le secteur des pâtes et papiers. Entrée dès 2010 dans un processus de restructuration financière encadré par la Loi sur les arrangements avec les créanciers des compagnies (LACC), cette entreprise a vu ses règles courantes de gestion être modifiées afin de se conformer à un plan de relance axé sur la protection et la valorisation du patrimoine financier de certains investisseurs. L’article retrace le rôle et les logiques d’action de deux groupes faisant partie de l’élite financière dans la mise en place de ce plan de relance, soit le groupe des créanciers et propriétaires de l’entreprise d’un côté, et les experts financiers chargés de conseiller les autorités juridiques durant le processus de restructuration, de l'autre. La mise en lumière des fonctions et stratégies déployées par ces acteurs dans ce processus illustre des modalités par lesquelles les élites financières contemporaines peuvent tirer avantage des crises industrielles et contribuer ainsi à intensifier le processus de financiarisation de l’économie.

Abstract
This article aims to contribute to the study of the financial elite operating in Quebec by analyzing the case of the company White Birch Papers in the pulp and paper sector. Having entered in 2010 into a financial restructuring process governed by the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA), this company saw its current management rules modified in order to comply with a recovery plan aimed at protecting and enhancing the financial wealth of certain investors. The article traces the roles and action logics of two groups belonging to the financial elite in the implementation of this recovery plan, one being the group of creditors and owners of the company and the other the financial experts responsible for advising the legal authorities during the restructuring process. Highlighting the functions and strategies deployed by these actors in this process illustrates ways in which contemporary financial elites can take advantage of industrial crises and thereby contribute to intensifying the financialization of the economy.
