Le rapport à l’espace des jeunes issus de parents immigrés en région au québec : un bricolage inédit ?

Résumé

Nous savons peu du processus d’insertion et des pratiques migratoires des jeunes d’origine immigrée en région. Une étude qualitative fut entreprise en 1997 auprès de jeunes régionaux issus de parents immigrés, dans le cadre des travaux du « Groupe de recherche sur la migration des jeunes québécois ». Cet article a comme objectif de montrer à quel point ces jeunes régionaux d’origine immigrée ont un rapport à l’espace « élargi » et « transformé » notamment par un vécu de migrations multiples, à la fois internes et externes, et un héritage familial particulier. Ce vécu original imprègne leur sentiment d’appartenance à un territoire donné, ces jeunes se disant à la fois attachés à la région québécoise où ils ont passé leur enfance et à d’autres régions du monde où ils ont parfois séjourné pendant les vacances d’été auprès de la parenté ou encore pendant des stages d’études, d’aventure ou d’entraide humanitaire. L’analyse de la complexité du processus qui les lie à l’espace – tant local que mondial – est présentée. Elle est notamment fondée sur les propos des jeunes eux-mêmes, élaborant leur conception d’une vie « de qualité » et les motifs de leur enracinement territorial. Il en ressort une vision à la fois locale et transnationale du territoire à habiter. Cette analyse apporte une perspective diachronique pouvant éclairer la politique actuelle de la régionalisation de l’immigration.

Abstract

Little is known about the integration process and migratory practices in the case of young persons of immigrant origin in the regions of Québec. A qualitative survey was conducted, in 1997, of young regional residents whose parents were immigrants, as part of the work by the Groupe de recherche sur la migration des jeunes québécois. This paper aims to demonstrate to what point these young regional residents of immigrant origin have a relationship with “broadened” and “transformed” space, particularly through the experience of multiple migrations, both domestic and external, and through a specific family heritage. This experience of origin binds the feeling of belonging of these young people to a particular territory; they state that they are attached both to the Québec region where they spent their childhood and to other regions of the world where they may sometimes have spent their summer vacations visiting relatives or during study sessions, adventure trips or on humanitarian work. The analysis of the complexity of the process that ties them to the space – both local and global – is presented; it is mainly based on the statements of the young people themselves, developing their concept of “quality” of life, and the reasons for the growth of their territorial roots. This brings out a vision, both local and transnational, of the inhabited territory. This analysis provides a diachronic outlook that may inform the current policy of regionalization of immigration
