Résumé
Cet article apporte une nouvelle réponse au problème bien connu que pose l’emploi du démonstratif dit de notoriété (ou démonstratif épique) en ancien français. L’opposition appariement référentiel contigu saturé (cist) / appariement référentiel contigu non saturé (cil) nous permet d’expliquer les cinq caractéristiques suivantes, qui déterminent cet emploi :
le caractère énigmatique du démonstratif;
la restriction du site d’apparition à des topoi;
la nature générique du référent dénoté par le SN démonstratif;
le nombre pluriel du SN démonstratif;
>l’emploi quasi exclusif de la forme cil.
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to give a new answer to the question: How analyse the epic use of the demonstrative adjective of the old French, language in sentences like:
Ce fu en mai el novel tens d'esté:
Florissent bois et verdissent cil pré.
Ces douces eves retraient en canel,
Cil oisel chantent doucement et soëf
This use, as known, gives raise to many difficulties. We propose to resolve them in three steps. First, we go to identify exactly the boundaries of the phenomenon. Secondly, we take account of the anterior solutions and set off their limits. Finally, we shall propose our own hypothesis in terms of non saturated contigous referential matching
