Abstract
The Satanic Temple, founded in the United States in late 2012, is a Satanist, secularist and religious organization whose aim is to identify collusion between religion and public policy, adopting the same strategies as fundamentalists. The case of the Baphomet statue in Oklahoma, in which the Temple sought to have its own statue erected next to that of a Decalogue, contributed to its media celebrity. This article analyzes the subsequent, similar case in Arkansas from 2015. This case allows us to understand the dynamics of forum doctrine within the American public sphere, the influence of the Christian Right within certain institutions and the strategies adopted by the Satanic Temple with the aim of enforcing religious pluralism through an “unacceptable” religion. This case illustrates the relationship between the perceived status of religious majority and minority, and the double-edged role of forum doctrine.
