Face à la globalisation des marchés et à l'internationalisation des entreprises capitalistes, l'exportation, la franchise, la joint-venture et l'investissement direct constituent les principaux modes de développement possibles entre lesquels une coopérative doit choisir pour étendre son réseau au-delà de son marché national. Alors que l'internationalisation constitue une priorité stratégique pour les coopératives, il est essentiel de comprendre, dans un contexte où la franchise internationale s'affirme comme un mode d'entrée privilégié, quels sont les facteurs organisationnels et environnementaux qui expliquent le choix de ce modèle de développement. Cette problématique est étudiée à travers l'exemple de Yoplait. La société Yoplait, détenue par Sodiaal, premier groupe coopératif laitier français et l'un des tout premiers européens, est la deuxième marque mondiale dans les yaourts, leader dans seize pays (Etats-Unis, Australie…) et présente dans plus de cinquante pays.

Abstract

In response to the globalization of markets and the internationalization of capitalist firms, exports, franchises, joint ventures and direct investment are the main avenues for growth open to a cooperative that wants to expand its network beyond the national market. As internationalization is a strategic priority for cooperatives, setting up foreign franchises has become the main approach, and it is thus important to understand the organizational and environmental factors that determine the choice of this model for growth. To answer these questions, the author looks at the case of Yoplait. Owned by Sodiaal, the leading dairy cooperative group in France and one of the leaders in Europe, Yoplait is the world's number two brand of yogurt, the market leader in 16 countries (USA, Australia, etc.) and has a market presence in over 50 countries.
