Abstracts
Resumen
En este artículo, estudio la representación ambivalente de estrellas y celebridades en una selección de novelas españolas de la década de 1920, en las que el protagonista aprecia y cuestiona su estatus. Las estrellas en estas novelas encarnan el triunfo económico y social, pero a través de ellas, los autores también negocian con las tensiones culturales en torno a la sexualidad, la raza y la cultura de masas. Usan a la estrella para reflejar las obsesiones, contradicciones e inestabilidades contemporáneas, y animan al lector a reflexionar sobre los mecanismos del estrellato y sobre su propia participación en la cultura de masas.

Abstract
In this article, I study the ambivalent representation of stars and celebrities in a selection of Spanish novels of the 1920s, in which the protagonist both appreciates and questions their own status. The stars in these novels personify economic and social success, but through them, the authors also negotiate cultural tensions around sexuality, race, and mass culture. They use the star to reflect their era’s obsessions, contradictions, and instabilities, and encourage the reader to reflect on the mechanisms of stardom and on their own participation in mass culture.
