Résumé
L’objectif de cet article est de montrer comment l’analyse de la religiosité indigène est essentielle pour comprendre la présence des Tobas et leurs formes d’organisation dans les villes d’Argentine. Les liens très forts qui subsistent entre les groupes de migrants urbains et ceux qui résident encore dans leurs territoires traditionnels du Chaco (au nord-est de l’Argentine) permettent d’affirmer l’existence d’un peuple toba qui transcende la division ville-campagne. Or, l’Iglesia Evangélica Unida, fondée au Chaco comme « Église toba », constitue une des formes principales d’organisation qui tend à reproduire la dynamique sociale de ce peuple. L’examen de la religiosité des Tobas des villes nous permettra d’éclairer sous un jour nouveau les rapports entre la religion et l’organisation sociale.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to show how the analysis of indigenous religiosity is essential to understanding the presence of the Toba and their forms of organization in Argentinean cities. The strong links that persist between urban migrants and those who remain in their traditional territories of the Chaco (northeastern Argentina) allow us to speak of one Toba people, transcending the urban-rural division. It is precisely the Iglesia Evangélica Unida, created in the Chaco as a “Toba Church”, which constitutes one of the main organizational forms which tend to reproduce the social dynamics of this people. Studying the religiosity of the urban Toba allows us to shed new light on the relationships between religion and social organization.
