Résumé
Le postdoctorat est de plus en plus populaire auprès des doctorants et des nouveaux docteurs en science politique qui aspirent à une carrière universitaire pour laquelle il y a beaucoup d’appelés et peu d’élus. Mais comment obtenir du financement postdoctoral et réussir son postdoctorat ? Je réponds à cette question à partir de mon expérience personnelle. Après avoir présenté les différents types de postdoctorat, je discute des « pièges » à éviter relatifs au candidat, au projet de recherche et à la demande de financement. Je conclus sur une note positive en proposant aux chercheurs postdoctoraux des objectifs ambitieux mais atteignables.

Abstract
Postdocs are increasingly popular among PhD candidates and newly-minted PhDs in political science who wish to pursue an academic career in a context where many are called, but few are chosen. How can one secure postdoctoral funding and complete a successful postdoc? I answer this question based on my personal experience. After having presented the various types of postdocs, I discuss the “pitfalls” relative to the candidate, the research project, and the funding application. I conclude on a positive note by outlining ambitious yet achievable objectives for postdoctoral researchers.
