Résumé
Cet article explique comment nous avons développé et animé un atelier de théâtre appliqué d’une journée sur la décolonisation, pour des juges. L’atelier a d’abord fourni aux juges un cadre pour prendre en compte l’histoire coloniale du Canada et les idées coloniales actuelles qui se manifestent en nous. Ensuite, l’atelier a donné aux juges l’occasion de sortir de leur rôle professionnel habituel et d’examiner comment les besoins des jeunes autochtones sont abordés au tribunal du point de vue d’une jeune personne et de sa grand-mère. L’objectif de notre atelier était de réfléchir collectivement à ce que signifie notre propre décolonisation et celle de notre système judiciaire. Cette étude de cas démontre que les « règles d’engagement » sont flexibles, mais qu’elles doivent être soutenues par les connaissances culturelles, le respect des protocoles culturels, la réflexion, le respect de l’expérience vécue et l’ouverture à l’apprentissage pour toustes.
